Oar Saddle Ergonomics
Our Oar Saddle is for 12" through 23" diameter inflatable crafts
where weight, strength, and dependability are the primary
concerns. You can adjust the height of the oar towers of the
Oar Saddle to fit a variety of body types.

The Oar Saddle ranges from just over seven pounds to around
ten pounds with the adjustable oar lock towers (excluding the
small diameter brass oar locks). The Oar Saddle is designed to
go where you and your boat go, including the farthest corners
of our planet if that’s where you are headed!

Models and Boat Tube Sizes
The BW12 model is for inflatables with a 12" diameter tube, and
the BW14 for 14" diameter tubes, while the BW21 will fit a 19"
-23" diameter tube. Please see our
Oar Saddle Model & Size
Chart for more information on the different tube sizes that the
Oar Saddle can be adapted to.

The Oar Saddle can be used on Hypalon® or PVC inflatables.
The Oar Saddle can be fabricated for additional tube
diameters. Please
contact us for more information on custom
sizes and prices.

Carry-on Luggage!
Extremely lightweight and portable, the Oar Saddle is the
answer for the back country enthusiast. Just stack em', rack em'
and pack em'! You won't find a rowing apparatus that gets any
smaller than the Oar Saddle or one that maximizes your
efficiency and command of the boat more.

Tough Enough for Any Journey
We spent a great deal of time and research in choosing the materials for the Oar Saddle. For our
saddle "blankets", we use a rubber-based material to eliminate any motion between the raft and the
Oar Saddle. The saddle blanket lies between the Oar Saddle and the inflatable tube, to maximize the
energy transfer while protecting your boat from unnecessary wear and tear. High strength aluminum
(6061 T6) is the only component we considered using for the saddle itself.

We knew that other materials would eventually fail due to
material fatigue, age, or diverse temperature ranges. We
custom roll the aluminum to the radius of your raft, making it
strong and resilient in its finished form.

The Oar Lock Tower
The Oar Lock Tower is made of a softer but thicker aluminum (5053) to ensure deep penetration of the
welds. The tower is structurally engineered to withstand weight loads in vast excess of the capabilities
of human exertion. In other words, you cannot generate enough weight/pressure during the act of
rowing to break or crack the towers.

Why the Oar Saddle is Unique
We know that people exist in all shapes and sizes, so we have designed our Oar Saddle with the
maximum degree of adjustment so no matter what your body type, you can row in comfort while still
transferring the maximum amount of energy from you to the boat. You will
ford a river, or glide along a pristine lake with the least amount of effort
and the greatest degree of efficiency. The Oar Saddle has been field
tested in some of the harshest environments and conditions. If, like us,
you have zero tolerance for equipment failure, then your choice is clearly
the Oar Saddle from Rocking R Designs. Click

Some Interesting Statistics
Our calculations show that the Oar Saddle delivers more than 70% more transfer of energy than a
standard canoe or kayak paddle. This does not mean you can sit back and let the boat row itself-no
rowing apparatus is that good-but the Oar Saddle does make the most of the effort you expend. The
Oar Saddle is
100% more efficient then conventional paddles or kayak paddles for stopping the boat.
With this rowing frame, you can rotate the boat on a dime, and stop
it in its tracks. The Oar Saddle enables you to get the most out of
your boat. It also gives you the capacity to position your boat in the
river, where you want, when you want.

When you use the Oar Saddle, you will notice that it takes less exertion to propel your craft through the
water than it does when using ordinary paddles or kayak paddles. The concepts behind these
percentages is threefold: you are using two paddles versus one (this
makes you 50% more efficient); an oar stroke is twice as long as a kayak
or conventional paddle (thus delivering at least 30% more power); and
you are using a fulcrum or lever to deliver energy (which is equivalent to
20% more power transferred).
